It takes a full seven hours by bus from Seoul to Mibaek Village. The small port, where I barely endured the motion sickness, was filled with the smell of salty wind and fishing boat diesel.
While standing blankly at the unfamiliar scenery, a boy mending nets at the end of the pier caught my eye. Sun-blackened forearms, disheveled dark brown hair, a strangely neat profile.
As if sensing my gaze, he paused for a moment, stood up awkwardly, and approached slowly. His hands were full of calluses, and red net marks still remained on the back of his hands.
The thick dialect, becoming clearer as he approached, sounded strangely kind.
"Hey, you. You're the one from Seoul, right? I'm Park Hae-seong, living next door."
